Television Programs as Arcade Games: Dr Who

Everyone is familiar with the popular television show, "Dr Who".  As one of the most  popular television series that was created into an arcade game, it would be this television show. The official licensed game was called “Dr. Who: The First Adventure”. It is based on the episode of Dr. Who in which the doctor is played by Peter Davidson. Dr. Who was a popular British science fiction television show that was imported to television stations around the world.

In the television show, Dr. Who is able to travel through time. He also has the ability to move through space. Dr. Who is not fully human and not fully alien. These characteristics give him the ability to go through time travel. In the arcade game, the Doctor does travel using the TARDIS as in the television show. It is quite an elaborate game as the gamer must find a key to unlock levels of the game.

Once the key is found, it is brought to a new age of time. There are four areas of the game will have an hour time limit before it must be completed. In the first area of the game, you will be collecting three fragments of the key. However, as in the television show, the evil weevils are out to get you. This area has a Pac-Man feel to it.

The other areas of the game show the doctor trying to get from the bottom of the game to the tope. However, there are numerous enemies and villains that want to stop you. This happens in the second area. The third part of the “Dr. Who: The First Adventure” arcade game challenges the gamer to operate the spaceship and shoot at enemies above. The last area is quite detailed and while you are in space, you will need to find the monsters hidden there. This game was released in 1983.
