The National Entertainment Collectibles Association has announced that game based on the hit movie "Gremlins" will be released on November the 18th, 2011.  This game will be available on the Nintendo DS and Wii platforms.

The game itself is so simple that it appears to be targeted at children.  The point and click Gremlins game allows plays to interact with and care for their very own Gremlin.  Players can choose the star of the movie Gizmo or one of his four friends.  Each Gremlin has its own personality which the gamer can explore through its interactions with the creature.  There are dozens of games that users can play with their Gremlin.  Some of these are reboots of retro classics.

While the game itself does not look bad, it is hard to see it succeeding.  Gremlins is a cult classic that is popular with both people who saw it in the 80s.  While the movie has a cult following, fans are generally adults who may not want to play child orientated games.  It is hard to believe that audiences still care enough about the Gremlins franchise to purchase a copy of the game.  It has been 27 years since the movies have been released.  Those who are still invested enough in Gremlins to purchase the game are in the minority.  On a more positive note the game will be enjoyed by children who like the Furby toys.  Some kids will be attracted to it as they like the idea of taking care of a virtual pet.
